Relapser gets 14 months for robberies

28-year-old man jailed after pleading guilty to robbing three shops in Hamrun and San Gwann last month  

A young man from Rabat has been jailed for 14 months and was ordered to undergo drug rehabilitation after robbing three shops.

Annise Bejaoui, 28, was arraigned before magistrate Joe Mifsud this morning, charged with carrying out the three thefts, from shops in Hamrun and San Gwann on April 27th and 28th respectively.

He was also charged with causing criminal damage to the door of the Hamrun shop, breaching two sets of bail conditions and committing an offence during the operative period of a suspended sentence.

The accused pleaded guilty to all charges.

In view of his admission, the court imposed an eight month prison sentence for the charges, together with the reactivated six month sentence that was previously suspended. He was also placed under a treatment order for three years, with the court ordering the director of prisons to provide the man with the assistance he required to be rehabilitated.
