Updated | Missing youths found alive after being spotted by fisherman

Two young men who were reported missing on Saturday have been rescued after a local fisherman noticed them clinging to the cliffside as he went out fishing, an hour before a major drone search was set to begin.
A Maltese national from Birżebbuġa, Nick Johnson, 19, and a Serbian, 21-year-old Mark Petric, were reported missing after last being seen riding their bicycles on Friday afternoon. The bikes were later found by a fisherman in a cave in Blata tal-Melh, in the limits of Fomm ir-Rih, Rabat.
On Saturday morning, the search for two young men took a turn after the bags they were carrying, containing clothes, shoes and two mobile phones, were found on the outskirts of Rabat. They were found at about 5am.
In a series of Facebook posts published this morning, Kerstin Panzavecchia, mother of Nick Johnson, confirmed that both men had been found alive.
“They found them … both alive … My son Nick and Mark have been found,” she wrote.
Police confirmed with MaltaToday that the men were found within the area of Blata tal-Melh, with reports coming in at about 6:45am.

The Armed Forces of Malta dispatched an AW 139 helicopter and the rescue vessel Melita II were deployed to the area to assist in the evacuation operation.
The two men reportedly jumped into the sea, where they were retrieved, once the helicopter and the rescue vessel approached them.
The youths were dropped of on the quay in Cirkewwa, where an ambulance was awaiting to convey them to Mater Dei Hospital.

Police have confirmed that both men are “in good condition.”

Writing on Facebook, Johnson said that they had resorted to drinking urine in order to stay alive.
