A man has admitted to having stolen mobile phones and personal items from a vehicle being used by WSC personnel earlier this month.
The break-in took place in St Paul’s Bay on 11 August. Bojan Bozic, 34, from Serbia, was arrested at his home in St Paul’s Bay yesterday after being identified from CCTV footage.
Inspector Nicholas Vella arraigned Bozic before magistrate Audrey Demicoli this morning, accusing him of aggravated theft. The stolen items had not been recovered, the inspector said, explaining that the accused had told police that “he threw everything away.”
Lawyer Christopher Chircop appointed legal aid as the accused had insufficient means to pay for a lawyer to represent him.
Bozici pleaded guilty to the charge.
In his submissions on punishment, Chircop argued that the man had a clean criminal record and had cooperated with the police investigation.
After giving the man time to reconsider his admission, at the end of which he confirmed his guilty plea, the court found him guilty.
Bozic was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
