Man attempts to self-harm while in police custody

A 59-year-old man attempted to inflict harm on himself while in police custody on Sunday morning, the police have said.

The incident happened at around 9.15am at the Police Headquarters in Floriana, and involved a Maltese man.

Due to the swift action of the police officers on duty, the man did not sustain any injuries. He was however taken to Mater Dei Hospital as a precaution.

Police investigations are ongoing.
