Four detained following 65kg cannabis drugs bust
The four men are expected to be charged in court tomorrow
Four men have been detained by the police after they were found in possession of 65kg of cannabis.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, the police said that following weeks of observation members of the Drugs Squad stopped four men in the Gzira area after they were found in possession of the drugs ready to be trafficked.
The police said 17kg were found hidden in the car of a 40-year-old Qormi resident, while 47kgs were discovered in a Gzira garage and an Msida residence.
A haversack containing another kilogramme of cannabis grass, as well as small amounts of cannabis resin and magic mushrooms was also seized by the police. €17,000 in cash was confiscated from the men.
Magistrate Simone Grech is leading a magisterial inquiry and has appointed a number of experts.
The police said that the other three arrested men include a 42-year-old Croatian who lives in Gzira, and two Serbian men – 36 and 37 – who live in Msida and Naxxar respectively. The four men are being held by the police in order to assist in the ongoing investigations.
They are expected to be charged in court tomorrow.
