PN executive council summoned to ‘discuss’ and ‘seek direction’ on divorce

The Nationalist Party’s Executive council has been summoned to meet next Thursday with an agenda that calls for a “discussion and direction” on divorce.

Thursday’s meeting will be the first internal party meeting that will discuss divorce since MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando presented a Private Members bill to Parliament that calls for the introduction of divorce.

A parliamentary group meeting held two weeks ago ended with Prime Minister and PN leader Lawrence Gonzi saying that the party will embark on an internal debate, and hinted at the issue being decided by a referendum.

Gonzi however, refused to answer the question if his intention was to call for a referendum during this legislature or the next.

Meanwhile, the Executive council is also expected to discuss the upcoming pensions reform. Government consultant David Spiteri Gingell will be present to make a general presentation of the reforms to be announced in the second pillar.

@ Kiril It seems that there are still those who profess the "I'm all right *uck Jack" way of thinking. Even I have been blessed with a good marriage and even if not, I would not apply for divorce as a Christian. God did not impose on Adam and Eve why should I or anybody else for that matter.

@Karl Stagno Navarra 'Gonzi however, refused to answer the question if his intention was to call for a referendum during this legislature or the next.' How can Gonzi call the referendum in the next legislature? Is it decided that he will be PM after the next election?

You have a right to your opinion and beliefs, but the question that begs an answer is, do you have a right to impose them on other people? Not an easy question to answer. I have been blessed with a happy marriage, but others have not been so fortunate.
