[WATCH] PM tours Muslim school, pledges to waive €400,000 loan
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi says once Budget 2013 is approved, he will ‘cancel the loan’ given to the Maria al Batool school.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi today toured the Maria Al Batool school in Paola, the only school in the Muslim world where the head is of Catholic belief.
The head, former PL MEP candidate Maria Camilleri, accompanied Gonzi during the visit of both the primary and secondary wings of the school together with Imam Mohammed El Sadi.
"The classes contain a diverse mix of students, including some from Libya and Syria who have fled from the crises in the Middle East," Gonzi said.
Gonzi also assured the Imam that once the Budget for 2013 is approved, government will waive the €400,000 loan the school has.
"The school plays a role in consolidating the Islamic existence in Malta," the Imam told Gonzi.
The government also provides the school with a yearly €300,000 subsidy.
