Franco Debono sends mailshot to fifth district voters
Former Nationalist MP Franco Debono sends leaflet to fifth district constituents with his judicial reform proposals.
Although he would not say whether he would be contesting the 9 March election, fifth district voters have received a leaflet from Franco Debono listing his proposals for judicial reform.
Debono accused PN leader Lawrence Gonzi of only backing a revision in the appointment and removal of judges and magistrates after sending the mailshot to fifth district voters.
Writing in his blog, the former fifth district MP, said: "Lawrence Gonzi, the leader of a party from which I am proud to have distanced myself, must have become aware that I am sending my private members' motion about major reforms in justice and home affairs to all residents of the fifth district. I had proposed years ago what the Prime Minister has just now discovered."
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Gonzi said that he favoured a revision of the Commission for the Administration of Justice, the that judged the behaviour of judges and magistrates
In a clear pitch for the fifth districts constituents' vote, Debono wrote: "The voters of the fifth district must know and fully realise, that whilst I did my utmost to propose fundamental reforms, Lawrence Gonzi did not let me work and that their vote was considered as IRRELEVANT."
In December, the Commission for the Administration of Justice begun impeachment proceedings against Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco, following the impeachment motion presented to Parliament by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
The impeachment motion against Farrugia Sacco was moved after the judge and Malta Olympic Committee secretary-general Joe Cassar were rapped by the International Olympic Committee in an investigation over the sale of Olympic tickets in 2012.
