Strong financial record gives ‘sole guarantee’ of free healthcare – PN
Nationalists take Joseph Muscat to task over claims that Labour will keep public healthcare free.
The Nationalist Party has accused Labour of using healthcare as a smokescreen for its "disastrous" financial record in government, referring to claims by Opposition leader Joseph Muscat that a new Labour government will keep public healthcare free.
"It's only the PN that can guarantee free healthcare thanks to government finances having been on such a sound footing for the past five years, with €1 million invested in people's health every day and hundreds of free medicines, include for cancer, dispensed to people."
The PN said Labour had to make its own guarantees of free healthcare after a disastrous short-lived government in which its bad finances forced it to levy "a tax on illness".
"Labour introduced payments for healthcare and party candidates like Franco Mercieca and Edward Scicluna, who are favoured by Joseph Muscat, have already said they are against free public healthcare."
