AD confirms participation on Xarabank’s leaders debate

Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson Michael Briguglio ‘more than willing to share the podium with other leaders’.

Alternattiva Demokratika's chairperson Michael Briguglio said he would be taking part in the second Xarabank leaders' debate planned for 1 March.

"I will participate with pleasure in the next leader's debate on Xarabank. Indeed, I am more than willing to share the podium with other leaders and to have equal time," Briguglio said in a statement.

He said that this debate would give the public to evaluate the proposals of the political parties based on a level playing field.

"AD will show that it is the voice of reason, dialogue and progressive policies," he said.

The Nationalist Party has also confirmed its leader's presence for the debate, while the Labour Party has so far declared that it has pulled out from the programme.

Alex - When you hear so many people say "ghandhom ragun tal-Alternattiva" but they still bring low results, how about asking why? Some words come to mind - nepotism, party financing, control of media, electoral system.

Alex it is most unfair on your part to blame Dr Michael Briguglio in any way when considering that he took over leadership of Alternativa Demokratika in 2009, a year after the last general elections. It would be more appropriate if you address your question as to why Alternattiva has not proved itself to the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Dr Toni Abela and his colleague Dr Wenzu Mintoff as founders and ex-militants of the Alternattiva Demokratika who however gave up and resigned from the party following the 1998 electoral result so they could return to a more cushy life in the ranks of the Labour Party. Dr Michael Briguglio has proved himself a dynamic young man of principle and not a turncoat opportunist who changes his ideology and betrays his principles, if he had any, with a disappointing electoral result.

@ Alex My friend you are mistaken, the reason we have low voters is because they don't let us send our massages like the other parties. I just switch from PN to AD because I like their ideology.FIL KANPANJA BLA BIZA.

@ Alex If AD got 'less than 1%' of first preference votes in the last election, it does not necessarily mean that they will get the same amount of support in the next one. What I mean, is that the media cannot place any party at a disadvantage BEFORE the country goes to the polls. In the meantime, AD is fighting the 'minority fight' which will benefit any other small party which might contest in the future. So instead of complaining about the alternative, you should support AD at least in their struggle for fair treatment by the media. You should also support AD in their call for electoral reform, which would give a btter chance to ANY small party.

how does the greens expect to have equal time as the other parties when they represent less than 1% of the people?! i know that you've been around for almost 25 years now and that the country needs a new alternative to PLPN, but you failed in offering such alternative and you're still trying to prove yourself mr brigulio!
