MEPA denies rushing through planning applications
MEPA accuses environment NGO of being ‘irresponsible’, denies rushing through the process of planning applications due to 9 March elections.
The Malta Environment and Planning Authority has denied that it was rushing with its decision making process over planning applications due to the 9 March elections.
Reacting to the claim made by environment NGO Flimkien Ghall-Ambjent Ahjar, MEPA lambasted the accusations as "unfounded" and "irresponsible".
"FAA clearly knows that with the new procedures, as introduced in January 2011, an application cannot simply be placed for a decision on the agenda of an Environment and Planning Commission (EPC) from one day to the next," MEPA said in a statement.
"The new procedure entails that an application is placed on the EPC's agenda a minimum of 21 days before the public hearing."
MEPA added that all agendas are accessible to the public online through Mepa's website www.mepa.org.mt.
The Planning Authority added that all planning decisions are published daily on the website and once a week on a local newspaper.
