[WATCH] Muscat tells Gozitans: ‘Gozo is everybody’s’

Labour leader Joseph Muscat in Gozo tells electorate to join his movement, says there is ‘a new sentiment’ among the people.

Ending his four-hour visit in Gozo at Sannat, Labour leader Joseph Muscat lambasted Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi for failing to include the enactment of a Whistleblower's Act in the PN's electoral programme published yesterday evening.

Addressing the crowd that filled the small square of Sannat, Muscat reiterated that a new Labour government would not only enact the Whistleblower's Act but also enact the party financing law.

"We are the only major political party that publishes its financial accounts every year. Others, who have something to hide, have failed to work on such a legislation despite having been in government for so long and despite repeated calls from one of its own MPs to regulate party financing," he said.

Playing to the audience's tune, Muscat said that the Prime Minister found the time to build a new parliament, but failed to work on much needed reforms.

The Labour leader also expressed his "surprise" for the fact that, despite sounding his approval to remove the time-barring on cases of political corruption, yet this was not included in the PN's electoral programme.

Muscat took his time to explain how a Labour government would be fighting corruption and become more transparent by electing members of the public to sit on boards of government-owned companies and entities.

"Decisions taken must be of the people, with the people and for the people," he said, insisting that the government must send the message that it trusted the people, fully aware of their potential.

"I stand before you to urge you not to give up: we must continue convincing people. When new people join us, these brothers of ours, we must welcome them... we know that something is going on in this country," Muscat added ominously.

Turning his address to those who were "seriously considering to vote Labour for the first time", Muscat said that together with the PL, they would be "writing history".

Generating rapturous applause from the crowd, Muscat said: "You hear others talking about Gozo being theirs... Gozo is everyone's."

The Labour leader repeatedly told the Gozitans that "we trust you" as he insisted that that there was "a new sentiment" that could be felt among the people.

"Everyone is feeling it... both in Malta and Gozo. We are edging closer to the time to make the change towards a new direction," he said.

@John Bonello. Aghar milli qeghdin illum ma nistghux inkunu: middle class imfarka, 85,000 new poor. Il-kontijiet kissru lil kulhadd, biex milli qed tghid sa issa l-Malta Today,' a few good blue eyed men' kienu jiehdu kickbacks minn fuq daharna!

Unfortunately, we did have cataraman service but it never survived due to cost. When these type of services are implemented, they should be reasonably priced and it should be the same price for maltese, gozitans and foreigners.

Gozo needs a catmaran service which will be very useful and makes life easier for those who visit and for the Gozitans to come to Malta.

I agree with most of what John Azzopardi said except for the airlink. The airlink has been proved not to be commercially viable (the helicopters and the seaplane service). What needs to be done is ensure that, on the few days that bad weather stops the ferry operating, an all-weather service by sea AND by air, operated by the AFM, is guaranteed for emergencies only (eg. people needing to catch a flight or people needing treatment in hospital). This has the double advantage that the AFM gets better quality equipment and that people in need are safeguarded. When tourists are planning a holiday in Gozo, why not improve the websites and give them decent information to allow them to plan properly so that they can get to/from Gozo on time?

why do we keep talking like children. Malta, Gozo and Comino belong to all of us - Gozitans and Maltese......I just don't see why we keep getting too excited about this issue. What gozo needs is to be treated fairly and gets the funds that are due to it so it can carry the much needed upgrading of gozitan infrastructure. Also , gozo needs an air link and also to have its tourist projects approved so that more tourist can stay in Gozo and not just do one day visits. That is what Gozo needs. With these initiatives, jobs will be created and GOZO can grow. When politicians talk about job creation for Gozo, we need to know how jobs will be created not just say jobs will be created. Jobs can only be created if there are funds available or if projects are approved instead of being rejected all the time because someone who has no interest in Gozo raises the environmental flag every time a project is announced. Gozo cannot remain in a cacoon.
