The PN's assault on Gozo continues
In what is fast becoming a weekly ritual, Prime Minister Gonzi this evening visited Gozo, the venue this time round being Xewkija.
Instead of the blitz tactics used by his counterpart Muscat, who yesterday dedicated a whole day to touring the island, the PN is going for a more tactical assault on Malta’s sister island.
Gonzi thanked the crowd for their warm welcome which was undoubtedly a nice booster shot, bringing us nicely to the PN’s chosen theme of the week, healthcare.
“Labour used to view the Gozitan general hospital as a superfluous luxury. What is good for Malta is good for Gozo. We want to set up more clinics in Gozo and tie this in with our primary goal of combating diabetes,” Gonzi said.
Gonzi again warned that free healthcare cannot be taken for granted, as it requires a certain amount of financial nous.
“We can continue to provide free healthcare if our financial management remains prudent. You have to weigh all this up on the 9 March. Muscat wants to spend €600 million on a power station that we do not need. The interconnector is already going to bring cheaper energy bills. €600 million would be better spent on healthcare.”
“We have managed to provide one of the best healthcare services in Europe, without the litany of natural resources available to other countries. The PN has managed to reduce the deficit in government expenditure whilst still expanding the amount of healthcare services on offer,” Gonzi said.
The Prime Minister noted that all of Muscat’s proposals for Gozo have either already been implemented by the PN, or are in its electoral programme.
"Labour has relegated Gozo to the second division," Gonzi declared.
