'Tony Zarb should resign' - Busuttil
Healthcare, international summitry and the GWU were discussed by Simon Busuttil at an event held in Zebbug. Busuttil was filling in for the PM who is currently in Brussels.
Simon Busuttil was left to pick up the thread on healthcare as the PM is currently attending a summit in Brussels in order to thrash out a deal on the EU's 2014-2020 budget.
"The PN is a respected member in the EU, and it manages to get results," Busuttil said.
"If on the 9 March we get a PL government, that government will have to convince the EU that they are true Europeans and believe in the project. This will be the first obstacle that the PL will have," Busuttil warned.
Busuttil referred to the General Workers' Union cosy relationship with the Labour Party. He read out verbatim the transcript of the audio tape originally published yesterday.
"Here is the proof of corruption and lack of seriousness. The head of the GWU should bear responsibility for his statement and resign. The GWU prefers to safeguard the interests of others rather than those of its own workers," Busuttil said.
Busuttil promised that a PN government would keep healthcare free for all. He argued that the PN administration has changed the perception that private hospitals are superior to public ones.
"The Labour Party lied to you. Healthcare has remained and shall remain free for all. We can afford to send people to be treated for free because this government has managed peoples' taxes well. The PL is a populist Party that is incapable of taking on serious responsibility," Busuttil said.
Busuttil explained that research on diabetes is currently fragmented, and the EU is currently working on consolidation.
"Diabetes affects 10% of the population. I do not want anyone suffering from diabetes in Malta in any way feeling like they are receiving an inferior service."
