Malta was not for all under a Labour government - Gonzi
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has promised to continue to offer the best possible opportunities to everyone in Malta, particularly in the sphere of education.
Soggy Swieqi was the venue for this evening’s public discussion held by the PN.
News that the PL’s event in Gzira was cancelled due to the inclement weather received a boisterous cheer from the chilly crowd.
The discussion centered mainly on the PN's education policy over the past legislature and its commitments for the future.
Gonzi said that whilst the PN opens doors to the world of education, the PL placed obstacles in people’s way. The Prime Minister said that a large bulk of the €1.1 billion in EU funds secured by Malta would be used towards bettering education.
“The stipends granted to students are an investment not an expense. This is why we are committed to providing a cost of living adjustment to help better support students in their studies,” Gonzi said.
Gonzi expressed pride in the PN’s inclusive education policy. He said that the PN has offered children with a disability the opportunity to learn in tandem with other children.
The PM said that without the PN’s prudential financial management over the past years a lot of these perks would not have been possible.
“Vouchers for childcare centres will be given to all workers be they part-time or full-time as well as parents still pursuing their studies. No one should get disheartened when it comes to furthering their studies. A wealth of opportunities exist,” Gonzi said.
“For all its defects the PN is committed to offering the best to Maltese families. The PL feels the need to say that Malta is for all, because under a Labour government this was not the case,” Gonzi declared.
