Minister for tourism Mario De Marco today said that the PL's energy plans are harmful for the tourism sector.
"The PL's plans are based on a number of unsustainable factors. Under their plan, energy tariffs will actually increase by 5%."
De Marco also expressed chargin at the 15% tax rebate promised by Muscat at Malta international airport this morning.
"This rebate actually features in the 2013 budget which Muscat voted against," De Marco exclaimed.
De Marco said that hotels are better off focussing on more sustainable energy means.
"A recent water audit carried out at the Corinthia hotel group brought about an almost 50% reduction in water consumption, which represents a huge saving."
He also said that the PN's night tariffs will bring about savings of 7-26% between the hours of 10pm and 6am.
"The MHRA has reported record profits over the past five years. Tourism is the backbone of Malta's economy and many people earn a living off of it. We need to ensure that this positive trend continues."
De Marco said that the PN is proposing to increase the Malta Tourism Authorities' budget, which will help it to further promote Malta overseas.
"We need to focus more on niche markets like Brazil, China, Japan and Turkey. We also need to promote the country more as a diving destination. The PN is committed to further investment in the tourism sector," de Marco said.
