[WATCH] New government to have humane face - Gonzi
PN leader Lawrence Gonzi says new PN government would have a more humane face and improve its relationship with citizens.
A new PN government would have a more humane face, PN leader Lawrence Gonzi said this morning as he visited hawkers in Valletta.
"It is clear that we need to fine tune the way government, from top to bottom, including the Prime Minister, chairmen and heads of departments, treats consumers, individuals and citizens which deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The government has a duty to be accountable whether the answer is yes and even more so if the answer is no."
He added that if elected, a new PN government would make a quality leap in its relationship with citizens and ensure that it is "really humane" and persons should not be treated like files.
He added that this would benefit everybody, especially the business community.
In a brief address after visiting the open air market and the old Valletta Market building in Merchants Street, Gonzi said that Labour has yet to come forward with its plans on job creation, despite blowing its trumpets on its "roadmap."
Gonzi refused to answer questions on finance minister Tonio Fenech's allegations against Joe Cordina, the former Labour financial administrator after oli trader and state witness George Farrugia admitted in court that Cordina's company played no role in the commissions-for-oil scandal.
However, the PN leader said: "I am not the court, its up to the court to decide who is credible and who is not. Labour must learn that the court's judgement must be accepted because our courts decide who is saying the truth and who is not."
Asked whether all ministers had returned the money after the 2008 wage increase was reversed, Gonzi said: "I have nothing to add to what was said in official replies, everybody is refunding the money, everybody refunded the money."
Mentioning a number of measures undertaken by his government in the last five years, such as micro-invest schemes and tax credits to small businesses, Gonzi insisted that these initiatives would be strengthened and expanded by a new PN government.
