Paul Borg Olivier will not seek reconfirmation
Nationalist Party secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier confirms he will not contest for role of secretary-general.
Nationalist Party secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier has announced he will not present his name as a candidate for re-election as PN General Secretary.
"I am assuming my responsibilities for what has happened," he during an interview on TVAM regarding the outcome of the general election, where he said that he was part of the administration that was responsible for the PN's landslide defeat.
The announcement comes in the wake of a similar decision announced yesterday by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
At the time, Gonzi had declined to comment about Borg Olivier's and PN deputy leader Simon Busuttil's future within the party, saying that "it is as yet too early for that sort of analysis."
He however insisted that "I personally and completely shoulder the responsibility for the [electoral] result" and that "the result is a reflection of my decisions as Prime Minister over the past five years."
Dr Borg Olivier took over the post after the 2008 election following the resignation of Joe Saliba.
