Parliamentarians who might lose their job

James Debono combs the election figures to see whom from our current MPs will be able to hang on to their seats, and who are out of the game.

The list of those probably excluded from the next parliament includes former Labour general secretary general Jason Micallef, Mintoff's daughter Yana Mintoff Bland, surgeon Anthony Zammit, former Hamrun mayor and MP Luciano Busuttil,  former Labour MP Noel Farrugia, Nationalist MEP David Casa, transport reform architect Manuel Delia and former Minister Censu Galea.

Facing imminent danger are Nationalist MPs Jean Pierre Farrugia and Karl Gouder. Meanwhile Labour's seasoned MPs Gavin Gulia and Michael Falzon together with MEP Edward Scicluna also risk missing out on a Parliamentary seat.

Yet this list could be provisional due to the prospects of election by bye-election or in the PN's case the possible addition of seats to ensure full proportionality.

1st District

On PL ticket Louis Grech, Deo Debattista, Hose Herrera and David Farrugia Sacco have surpassed MP Luciano Busuttil.

With PL set to take 3 seats Jean Pierre Farrugia is a trailing front-runner Mario De Marco and Claudio Grech.  Since Grech and De Marco contested one district Farrugia risks elimination from the next parliament.  His only chance of getting elected would be if PN is compensated by two extra seats to ensure proportionality.

On 1st district Gejtu Vella garnered only 299 first count votes.

2nd district

On PL ticket Yana Micallef Bland has no chance of being elected.  The front-runners for Labour's four seats are Joseph Muscat, Joe Mizzi, Stefan Bountempo and Helena Dalli. MP Chris Agius is in fifth place.

But Agius was not elected from this district in 2008.

Stephen Spiteri is the PN's runner up and could win seat if Gonzi vacates this.

3rd district

New Labour front-runner Owen Bonnici has overtaken George Vella.  Vella faces competition from Carmelo Abela and Etienne Grech but would probably make it.

New PL candidate and fitness entrepreneur Marion Mizzi stands no chance of being elected.

4th district

Konrad Mizzi took the bulk of Joseph Muscat's second preference thus surpassing 2008 front-runner Silvio Parnis. But Parnis will probably make it.

Former Labour Minister Joe Cilia has no chance of being elected from this district.

Jason Azzopardi has remained the PN's front-runner followed by Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.

5th district

Karmenu Vella remains Labour's front-runner followed by Marlene Farrugia.  Overtaken by Edward Scicluna, George Vella also faces strong competition from new candidate Joseph Farrugia.

On PN front transport reform architect Emanuel Delia has no chance of being elected.  The PN's front-runners are Jason Azzopardi and Anthony Bezzina who has surpassed David Casa who stands little chance of being elected from this district.

6th district

Mario Louise Coleiro Preca retains her position as Labour's front-runner followed by economist Silvio Schembri who has surpassed Labour MP Roderick Galdes.  Former GWU deputy general secretary Manuel Micallef has already been eliminated.  So is Gavin Gulia.

On PN front the new front-runner is Clyde Puli. MEP David Casa has no chance of being elected having been surpassed by Ryan Callus and Peter Micallef,

7th district

Labour's 2008 front-runner Anthony Zammit has seen his first count slashed from 2737 to 804. Another sure casualty is Labour MP Noel Farrugia who has seen his first count drop from 2561 to just 577.  Newcomer Ian Borg is Labour's new district heavy weight followed by Godfrey Farrugia and Sandro Craus.

On PN front Joe Cassar is the clear runner up after Gonzi.

8th district

Joe Debono Grech is probably Labour's casualty on the district.  He is displaced by new labour front-runners Chris Cardona. Edward Zammit Lewis and Edward Scicluna.

On PN front Beppe Fenech Adami and Tonio Fenech emerge as front-runners followed by newcomer Claudette Buttigieg.

9th district

Labour's new front-runner is lawyer Emanuel Mallia.  Leo Brincat is poised to become the second Labour candidate to be elected from this district surpassing former deputy leader Michael Falzon.

On PN front Marthese Portelli will probably not make it from this district.  George Pullicino and Robert Arrigo are the strongest candidates after Deputy leader Simon Busuttil.

10th district

Emanuel Mallia is Labour's new front-runner.  Once again Labour's former deputy leader Michael Falzon is in third place in a district where Labour elects 2 MPs.  Evarist Bartolo is poised to become Labour's second MP elected from district,

George Pullicino, Robert Arrigo and Francis Zammit Dimech emerge as the PN's district heavy weights.  Surgeon Albert Fenech has surpassed Karl Gouder who risks not being elected to the new parliament.  But Gouder could make it through a bye-election, as both Arrigo and Pullicino will be elected from two districts.

11th district

With just 576 first count votes Jason Micallef has no chance of being elected to parliament.  Anthony Agius Decilis is Labour's new front runner replacing Anglu Farrugia. Agius Decelis garnered more votes than Deputy leader Louis Grech.

On PN front Edwin Vassallo is set to take the third seat after Simon Busuttil and David Agius.

12th district.

Deborah Schembri is in third place in a district, which elected 2 MPs but would probably be elected if Evarist Bartolo who is also elected from 10th district vacates this seat.

On PN's front neither Censu Galea nor his daughter Graziella stand a chance of making it to parliament.

13th district

For a while, who the third seat would go to hung in the balance, as it seemed that Justyne Caruana would emerge as Labour's chief casualty in the district after being surpassed by newcomer Franco Mercieica.

However PN's Frederick Azzopardi chances to win the third seat were dashed when Justyne Caruana managed to win the seat from the PN, overturning five decades of PN dominance over the district.

With Jason Azzopardi,Clyde Puli, Edwin Vassallo, Joe Cassar, George Pullicino, Francis Zammit Dimech, the PN opposition would be a poor one, lacking foresight and certainly lacking in cooperation. I hope the newcomers would have a brain some sized larger than a chicken's.
