Labour MEP Daniel Attard slammed the European Parliament over its silence in the face of the genocide in Gaza.

“We have lost our moral authority. We cannot speak on anything else if we are turning a blind eye to genocide,” Attard told the European Parliament (EP) plenary.

Comparing the EP’s condemnation of Thailand over its unlawful deportation of 40 refugees to its silence over the atrocities in Gaza, the Labour MEP said one must put the situations into context.

He said 20,000 children, equivalent to the number of children in Maltese schools, have been killed, but the EP has yet to condemn the senseless killings.

“It's not anti-Semitic to call out documented war crimes in 2025. This is not World War 2, but the atrocities of World War 2 have returned in 2025,” he said.

He questioned what the EP stands for if it cannot condemn such acts.

“We have lost all our moral authority. We cannot speak on anything else. If we're turning a blind eye to genocide. Indifference is complicity,” he concluded.
