Engerer calls for further EU cooperation on migration
MEP candidate stands by his ‘Malta l-Ewwel’ campaign slogan, prioritising the interests of the Maltese.
Labour MEP hopeful Cyrus Engerer called on the European Commission to outline clear strategies on irregular migration, job creation and consumer rights across the European Union.
In line with the slogan for his MEP campaign ‘Malta l-Ewwel’ (Malta first), Engerer said that, if elected, he would be “committed to obtain clear answers” on such issues and ensure that these strategies “reflected the priorities of the Maltese people”.
It was also important, he added, that the European Commission kept up its surveillance of the irregular migration task force and made sure that timeframes were kept to.
“It is important that a coordinated effort is sought between the European institutions, so as to achieve the best results for Malta,” he said, in a statement.
Engerer said he would push for a similar consensus on the generation of European jobs and in the implementation of more consumer rights, such as ensuring high standards on product labeling.
