One of the Labour Party’s candidates for the European Parliament elections is also the ambassador-designate to the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania.

In fact, today, professor Lino Bianco was presented with his letters of credence by President of the Republic Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

Letters of credence are sent by one head of state to another and formally grant diplomatic accreditation to the designated person.

Contacted by MaltaToday, Bianco confirmed that he had been appointed ambassador-designate to Bulgaria and Romania “for a number of months” now.

He will now present the letters of credence to the President of Romania, formally becoming an ambassador.

But despite the diplomatic post, Bianco – an architect by profession – insisted he was “fully” committed to the MEP elections.

“I am 100% committed to my candidature and my work reflects this,” he said.
