Labour MPs 'pigging out' - Chris Said
Labour MPs and their families pigging out on government appointments while rest of the country must make do with 2c reduction in petrol prices, PN secretary-general says
PN secretary-general Chris Said today accused Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of breaching his electoral pledge on meritocracy after dishing out around €1 million in appointments to his own MPs and their families.
“While giving you a 2c reduction in petrol prices, Joseph Muscat has given €1 million to his MPs and their families. While telling Labourites to be patient, Labour MPs and their families are pigging out right now,” Said said.
Addressing a press conference outside the Prime Minister’s office in Valletta, Said explained that despite promising that Labour MPs will not receive any remuneration over and above their Parliamentary honoraria, government MPs and their families will be enjoying over €1 million in government jobs.
He added that a number of MPs such as Silvio Parnis, Luciano Busuttil, Silvio Parnis and Charles Buhagiar were given multiple appointments.
Said added that since taking office, the Labour administration has employed over 1,400 people in the public service, which in the first three months of the year alone have cost the taxpayer €22 million.
