Weber elected new chairman of EPP
In February 2013, Weber was brought to Malta by the Nationalist Party in an attempt to convince the electorate “not to change a winning team.”
The EPP Group in the European Parliament today elected Manfred Weber as its new Chairman. He succeeds Joseph Daul who did not stand in the European elections.
The German MEP was elected by 190 votes out of 192, making the EPP the first political group to constitute itself following the European elections.
He was first elected to the European Parliament in 2004 and was the EPP vice chairman since 2009.

Joseph Daul, the outgoing Chairman of the EPP Group, congratulated Manfred Weber on his election and said that this shows that the EPP Group is united and ready to start work.
“His experience and personality embody the EPP's core values: the conviction that Europe is stronger united, coupled with the firm belief in the importance of building an EU closer to its citizens and able to deliver real added-value."
This afternoon, Manfred Weber will chair the EPP Group meeting for the first time, overseeing the election of the Group's Vice-Chairmen.
EPP candidate for the post of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, is expected to address the EPP Group's members tomorrow.
