Marlene Mizzi appointed vice-president of Petitions Committee
Labour MEP Mizzi also forms part of the IMCO and CULT committees.
Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi has been appointed as the vice-president of the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament by the socialist group , as well as on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Culture and Education Committee (CULT).
In a statement, Mizzi said that she felt “honoured” to have been appointed on a committee which required direct contact with the European citizens. “This is a committee which allows for the citizens to have a real say,” she said. “The right to start up a petition is part of the EU treaty and it is a fundamental right for every citizen.”
“It is an important and effective means by which people can involve themselves in the work of the European Parliament, as well as a way through which their suggestions and proposals can be addressed.”
On her appointment to the IMCO and CULT committee, Mizzi said that all the committees were important and pledged to carry out her roles in the “Most effective way possible.”
