Eurozone finance ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss Greece’s third bailout programme worth €85 billion, with Spanish finance minister Luis de Guindos sounding optimistic that a green light will be given today.

The Brussels meeting comes after the Greek government, which had debated the reforms that need to be introduced to secure the much needed funds through the night, secured enough votes to pass the bailout bill.

However, further uncertainty was heaped on the bailout process with reports from Reuters that left-wing prime minister Alexis Tsipras seeking a vote of confidence from the parliament after August 20.

In doorstep comments to reporters in Brussels, Malta’s finance minister Edward Scicluna said the minister were eager to see the third bailout through.

“However, eagerness is not enough. I think we have to ensure that everybody is onboard, including the IMF,” he said, adding that all members should agree on the way forward.

“That would ensure the sustainability of this whole package. The debt sustainability issue may hinder an agreement. But I hope it doesn't come to that.”

Scicluna said one could either go for debt-profiling or a haircut. “Politically, we all believe that at this point in time we should be talking about debt-profiling. Would I envisage a long or short meeting today? What I wish for is for it not to be too long,” Scicluna said.

Greece needs €41 billion till end of October and Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem said the €85 billion package appeared to be the "strongest and most concrete" agreed to date, adding that creditors would be able to halt payments quickly if a checkup in September or October showed that Greece was failing to follow through on its promised reforms.
