EPP welcomes new migration proposals
EPP welcomes Jean Claude Juncker's migration proposals and says he is "capable of taking the right actions to lead Europe forward"
The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Joseph Daul said that it welcomes and supports European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s migration proposals.
The new proposals were unveiled during his first State of the Union at the European Parliament today.
“Juncker has proved in the first year of his mandate that he is capable of taking the right actions and guiding Europe ahead,” Daul said.
“He was at the forefront in keeping Greece in the Eurozone, and continues to be at the forefront in finding a solution to the refugee crisis in Europe while defending core European values.”
Daul added that only a common European solution is the answer to the diverse internal and external cross-border challenges we face.
“The refugee and migration crisis which has reached an unprecedented scale, the pressure on the Schengen area, Islamist terrorist attacks in Europe and the war of IS in Syria,” he said.
Talking about overcoming the challenges of migration, Daul said that the right conditions for Europe’s economic prosperity and new jobs must be created, as well as ensuring social cohesion.
“We must also work towards a strong common foreign and security policy, help our neighbouring countries to create democracies based on the rule of law, justice, and eradicating corruption, and fight climate change.”
He stressed that one nation alone cannot overcome these challenges.
“A determined European vision must guide our actions. It is of the utmost importance that we remain united when European principles are threatened.”
Daul said that Juncker is uniting the EU and showing leadership in this move.
“We must now concentrate our efforts to translate solidarity into concrete actions to protect Europe’s values.”
