High time we revised the Dublin Regulation – MEP David Casa
Casa also welcomed the introduction of the concept of mandatory distribution mechanism.
Speaking from the European Parliament, after the debate today on the refugees crisis, MEP David Casa said that it is high time the EU came to the realisation that the Dublin Regulation is completely ineffective and must be revised.
"The Dublin Regulation requires that the Member State in which asylum seekers first apply for protection remains responsible throughout their stay in the European Union, often placing a disproportionate burden on Southern peripheral Member States such as Italy, Greece and Malta."
Casa also welcomed the introduction of the concept of mandatory distribution mechanism.
“President Jean-Claude Juncker’s proposals today and particularly the admission that the way must involve mandatory burden sharing is a crucial step in the right direction. It is the result of the culmination of many years of PN MEPs' hard work. In this regard I would like to acknowledge and thank Roberta Mestola MEP for the instrumental role she is playing within the Civil Liberties Committee in the European Parliament,” stated the PN’s Head of Delegation David Casa.
