EU heads of state and government will be meeting next week to discuss “how to deal” with the refugee crisis, Council President Donald Tusk has announced.
The “extra” and informal council will be held on Wednesday 23 September at 6pm in Brussels
The meeting is being convened following requests by some leaders, particularly German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann.
Over the past days, Merkel said EU leaders should meet to discuss the refugee crisis and called for unity.
"I think we need to establish a European spirit again ... I don't think threats are the right way to achieve agreement," she told a news conference with Faymann, whose country is also facing a refugee crisis.
