Casa elected president of EPP Workers Group
The elections were followed by a panel discussion on the integration of refugees for which MEP David Casa was the main speaker
Head of the Maltese Delegation in the EPP Group, MEP David Casa was elected President of the EPP Workers Group during its meeting in Florence, Italy today.
Casa said that he was honoured to have been entrusted with this important post by his colleagues. He further added that the timing of this appointment is particularly poignant as it follows the adoption of the EPP Paper on a 'Modern Social Europe', which he drafted.
Casa stated, "We now have the basis on which to further expand the EPP's role, ideas and influence in matters related to employment and social affairs. We as EPP need to defend our values and principles and continue working at promoting the European social model as a foundation of the social market economy”.
The elections were followed by a panel discussion on the integration of refugees for which Casa was the main speaker.
“The integration of refugees is the most significant challenge European societies will face in the coming years and will require a clear, comprehensive integration strategy and an abundance of resolve and determination from both sides".
The Workers Group Presidium consists of a high level group that brings together the various EPP entities. The group is instrumental in establishing policy positions. Such positions are subsequently reflected in relevant European legislation.
