Miriam Dalli ranked second most influential MEP on environmental policy
VoteWatch Europe has drawn up a list of influential MEPs on environmental policy and Labour MEP Miriam Dalli was ranked second
Labour MEP Miriam Dalli, coordinator for the Socialist and Democrat’s political group for the environment committee, has been ranked as the second most influential MEP on environmental policy.
The analysis, carried out by VoteWatch Europe, identified 10 European parliamentarians who stood out as most influential on environmental issues.
Dalli was shadow rapporteur on the binding annual greenhouse gas emission reductions by Member States and she is Vice-President of the Intergroup on Climate change, sustainable development and biodiversity.
Italian MEP Giovanni la Via (EPP), a former chair of the ENVI committee, was ranked as the most influential. He served as president of the EP delegation to the ground-breaking Climate Conference in Paris (COP 21) and drafted reports regarding international conventions and agreements on environmental protection.
VoteWatch Europe measured the environmental progressivism of MEPs based on 15 relevant decisions made during the current term of the European Parliament. It focused on controversial topics, that were not consensual among MEPs.
Besides voting behaviour, MEPs’ influence on the basis of their activities in the ENVI committee was also measured.
