Malta, Palestine sign cooperation agreement

Malta and the Palestinian Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which sets up a Joint Economic Cooperation Committee.

The agreement is aimed at exploring the modalities for developing economic relations, cooperation in industry, investment promotion, customs and intellectual property for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Finance minister Tonio Fenech and Hasan Abu Libdeh, minister of the National Economy of the Palestinian Authority.

Both ministers highlighted Malta’s dual characteristics, European and Mediterranean, and its unique position at the Southernmost tip of Europe and thus well positioned to act as a promoter to further links between the EU and Mediterannean countries to bridge the North-South economic divide, particularly by serving as a launch pad for EU businesses to penetrate Mediterranean partner countries and for Mediterranean countries to exploit enlarged EU market.
