Corinthia deny reports of Gaddafi share sell-off

A Corinthia Group spokesman has denied reports tweeted by a Libyan dissident news site that suggested Gaddafi emissaries are selling off shares in the Corinthia Group.

A senior spokesman for the Corinthia Group has told MaltaToday that a report carried in website Al Manara news, that is based in the UK, is “totally false.”

The report, that was tweeted early this morning, quotes un-named anti-Gaddafi activists in Malta who said that Gaddafi emissaries are currently in Malta to sell-off shares owned by the Libyan people within the Corinthia Group of Companies.

The report alleges that the shares are to be sold at a very cheap price in order for the Gaddafi regime to raise funds to finance the ongoing war in Libya.

Contacted by MaltaToday, the Corinthia spokesman said that none of the shares within the Corinthia Group that are owned by Lafico could be sold, as these have been frozen according to UN sanctions.
