Updated | Labour slams increases to TM licences and services

The Labour Party slams Transport Malta’s increases to licences and services at a time "when taxpayers are footing the bill for inefficiencies."

In a statement, PL spokesman for transport Joseph Sammut said that the announced increases by TM come at a time when public opinion is outraged at the lack of coordination over the pedestrianisation of Bisazza Street and the loss of 60 parking spaces and taxpayers have to make good for the compensation.

“Transport Malta also has to finance projects such as a ‘bridge to nowhere’ over the breakwater which will cost €2.8 million,” Sammut said, adding that when one looks at the announced increases, six out of eight tariffs have increased between 30 to 67%, and other categories by some 14 to 17%.

In reaction, the Transport Ministry denied that vehicle registration tarrifs had increased and described this as an "invention" by the Labour Party.

It said that the increases announced only dealt with non-essential services such as requesting new licence documents and licence discs to replace lost ones, additional registration certificates, and the tarrifs governing personalised car plates.

It added that the Labour Party had ommitted mentioning how anyone making use of these services online would not have to pay these additional tarrifs, accusing it of  "misleading the public."

The only person and political party deceiving the maltese citizens is the PN and Auin Gatt. After admitting that he left Malta and Gozo for ver 22years with an inexistent public transport he gave himself a weekly raise of 500 euro for efficency. If that is not deceiving the Oxford dictionary needs to be changed.

TM MEPA and all other authorities must be scrapped. They were only set up to find jobs for the blue-eyed boys and gals and skin the people alive with their tariffs, charges and taxes. Let the work return to the respective Government Departments and the Police who were more efficient and much much less expensive.
