British tourist killed in Qawra hit and run

Police are investigating the death of 77 year-old British tourist in a hit and run incident in Qawra late last night.

The woman, who was on holiday with her husband and daughter was killed as she was crossing Qawra's main road.

The incident happened at around 11:35pm, when the woman was hit by a car, allegedly grey and was thrown several metres and left dead on the spot by the driver.

While paramedics rushed to the scene, the woman was certified dead on the spot.

Investigations into the incident are being conducted by district police and the CID, while CCTV footage from private homes and establishments has been seized and is being analysed by forensic experts in a bid to identify the car involved.

A Magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
