“One cannot ignore conscience” – Mario Galea
“In every political decision, especially an issue like divorce, one cannot ignore conscience,” parliamentary secretary and Nationalist MP Mario Galea.
In an exclusive interview with Illum, Galea explains that he abstained in Wednesday’s vote during the divorce bill’s second reading vote because his conscience could not be ignored.
“If one sincerely believes that divorce is beneficial, then one does well to vote in favour. But if one believes otherwise, even going by other countries where divorce continued creating problems, one cannot ignore that,” he argued.
"Aside from my personal opinion, I believe that divorce will not prove beneficial,” adding however that he hopes that he is proven wrong 10 years down the line.
