Business as usual for Malta High Commission in London

The Maltese High Commission in London has re-opened this morning after yesterday's early closure on recommendation by London's Met Police in the wake of recent riots in the city.

It is business as usual at Malta House in Piccadilly, London, after it was decided to close 15 minutes earlier than normal, when local police recommended the closure of offices and shops in the area on suspicion that gangs were to gather in the city centre later in the evening.

More than 18,000 policemen were deployed to London to counter the unrest, but it was a rather calm night in London, as rioting and looting spread to other cities across the UK.

A spokesman for the Maltese Foreign Ministry told MaltaToday that the High Commission in London fully cooperates with the authorities in the British capital, and urged all Maltese nationals to seek assistance from its diplomats should the need arise.
