Attendance cheat ‘marks’ end to Tipp-Ex use

The Public Service Commission has banned the use of corrective fluids on attendance sheets following a case involving a public officer who received a perpetual general interdiction after tempering with an attendance sheet.

The Commission has ruled that any corrections to attendance sheets are to be signed and authenticated, and that information should never be erased by correcting fluid or other means.

The PSC called on every ministry, department, and section to strictly adhere to this policy.

This ruling was given after two instances of malpractice came to the notice of the PSC.

Employees who tamper with attendance face serious consequences. In one particular case, a public officer was arraigned in court for tempering with an attendance sheet, and received a probation sentence and a general perpetual interdiction in terms of the Criminal Code.

The Commission has requested the government to bring to the attention of all public officers the seriousness of the issue.
