MIA’s passenger movements down by 349 in August

Malta International Airport registered an increase of 8.5% in passenger movements during the first eight months of 2011.

Passenger movements at MIA in August totalled 427,575, a decrease of 349 when compared to the same period last year. August also reached a seat capacity of 499,068 – a decrease of 7% (37,295 seats).

During the same month, aircraft movements went down by 9.5% when compared to the corresponding period last year, whilst the average seat load factor increased by 5.9% to 85.7%.

The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) was 8.8% less than that registered in August last year, whilst cargo and mail was 10% lower than that recorded during the same month in 2010.

Malta Airport’s top market, the United Kingdom, registered an increase of 1% during the month of August with Germany experiencing a considerable increase of 22.8% and Spain growing at a slower rate of 2.7%.

On the contrary, Italy and France registered a decrease of 12.3% and 6.7% respectively.

The results for the first eight months of the year, in terms of passenger movements show an increase of 8.5% when compared to the same period last year, totalling 2,399,413 passenger movements with relatively the same amount of aircraft movements.

The average seat load factor improved by 4.2% reaching 75% for the period January to August 2011.
