The government has no idea what is going on at Enemalta, the Nationalist Party has said following the announcement of its new CEO Ryan Fava.

The Energy Minister Miriam Dalli had denied that outgoing CEO Jonathan Cardona would be dismissed from his role, after he oversaw a series of power outages which hit the island during last summer’s heatwave.

In August, Dalli had rubbished reports, insisting he was “still reporting for work”, but two months down the line government announced he would be replaced by Fava.

PN energy spokesperson Mark Anthony Sammut said this meant that Dalli was either “lying or she has lost control” of the sector.

“It also confirms that now, Robert Abela is trying to shift responsibility for the power outage suffered by the Maltese this summer, which was the result of incompetence and lack of planning,” Sammut said. “It also confirms that Robert Abela is lying when he only mentioned the problem in the heat and climate change."

He said that on the other hand, the PN has clear and detailed plan on how to best provide people with the energy services “they deserve”.
