Consumer watchdog calls on GO to amend misleading ads

The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has called on telecommunications firm GO plc to regulate itself on misleading advertising on its GO Sports television offering.

The MCCAA said the advertising was misleading because the last paragraph in its advert stipulated certain terms and conditions that were not visible enough for consumers to read it easily.

An asterisk next to the price should also alert readers to the terms and conditions, the MCCAA said.

Another shortcoming was billboards that did not have a clear reference that the offer was part of a specific service package, as was clearly indicated in the print and web advertising of the GO Sports product.

A freephone number for consumers to call and enquire on the package was also required.

The same conditions applied for the TV advert.

The MCCAA said it would proceed with any action at law unless GO realigns itself with consumer rules.

They should be read to the consumers and not printed in microprint.

Now that is news to me - Malta has a Consumer watchdog ! . Where has it beenthis Consumer Watchdog since the advent of Arriva with the hefty increase in fares, route maze, unreliable service, parking spaces like the Park & Ride no longer free, and literally dazed consumers local and foreign with Dr. Austin Gatt's Buzzolotti! . Where is this Watchdog when really needed? It's no watchdog is it's on the Gonzi payroll, it's just a muzzled pooch! For Consumers
