Malta embassy in Libya rendered safe
The Maltese Embassy in Tripoli has been rendered safe by a purposely deployed team of EOD technicians of the Armed Forces of Malta.
The ordnance clearance personnel travelled to Libya yesterday, onboard the Maritime Squadron’s flagship, the Diciotti-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV), P-61.
On berthing in Tripoli harbour yesterday, the 3 Regiment personnel forming part of the EOD team of six, were welcomed by Nader Salem Rizzo.
The sweep for ordnance on the Maltese Embassy’s premises proceeded welland have been concluded. Operations are still ongoing at the consulate building.
The P-61, with a security escort onboard of soldiers from 1 Regiment’s ‘C’ (Special Duties) Company and the Maritime Squadron’s own Rapid Deployment Team, left its moorings yesterdayafter deploying ashore the EOD team, and went out to sea.
The AFM explosives team are expected to give explosives awareness lectures to the Maltese Embassy and Consulate staff. This training effort’s initiative will also enhance the diplomatic staff’s awareness of such threats, whilst ensuring that appropriate actions are adopted should threats arise involving unexploded ordnance, explosives or munitions.
