Moviment Graffiti hold activity in support of Egyptians
Moviment Graffiti and the Egyptian Muslim Community in Malta hold a symbolic activity in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Ta' Xbiex, condemning the intimidation and violation of human rights on civilians.
Moviment Graffiti have expressed their full support and solidarity with the people of Egypt, who despite the removal of former leader Hosni Mubarak, are still fighting for democracy, liberty and social justice.
“The transitional military government must immediately stop the arbitrary intimidation of civilians, and instead work towards sustaining the long awaited path to democracy, well all people will be free from oppression,” the pressure group said in a statement.
Moviment Graffiti added that the country should now be built on the fundamental principles of human rights and pluralism in respect for all the different religions and cultures in the country.
The Egyptian Muslim community in Malta joined the movement in condemning the intimidation and violations of human rights on civilians that are continuously being perpetrated by the transitional military government, and the lack of progress to restore democracy and rule of law.
“The military should stop the trials of civilians and abolish the repressive law which prohibits strikes and sit-ins,” the community said. “We are also demanding the transitional government to determine the timetable for the delivery of elections. We also ask the authorities to establish the minimum wage.”
The activity in Ta’ Xbiex also called on the temporary leaders to not repeat the same mistakes made by Mubarak.
“The transition government should establish greater social solidarity and cohesion rather than retaliate against the people of Egypt with brutal force.”
