Repubblika asks European Central Bank to take action on Edward Scicluna

NGO Repubblika has sent a letter to the President of the European Central Bank to urge the body to, "take all appropriate measures" with regard to Maltese Central Bank Governer Edward Scicluna in light of criminal charges against him.
In their letter, Repubbilka noted that Scicluna had so far rejected calls for his resignation, "on the back of his claim that, as a member of the ECB Governing Council, he enjoys an immunity..."

They noted the significance of his charges, including that of defrauding the government while he was finance minister, and how this reflects poorly on the ECB's ability to serve the public interest while ensuring high standards.
"We urge you to take all appropriate measures to protect the interests of the European Central Bank and the standards that are reasonably expected by the European public from its most senior officials, and to address on our behalf these concerns with Prof. Scicluna," the NGO concluded.
Scicluna is set to be re-arraigned in connection to the Vitals scandal in the next few days, after the initial arraignment was declared null after the lawyers representing one of the defendants - law firm DF Advocates - claimed that the firm had not been validly notified with amended charges.
