Polish couple caught importing kilo heroin

The couple - an 18 year old woman and a 26 year old man - both Polish nationals were arrested on Monday night as they arrived at Malta International Airport on a flight from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.

Joint investigations by police and customs officers concluded that the couple were carrying capsules in their stomachs which contained a kilogramme of heroin.

The two were immediately escorted to the Police Headquarters in Floriana, where they were placed under arrest and are expected to be charged with conspiracy to import and traffic drugs and possession. The charges carry a maximum life sentence.
