[WATCH] Handling of honoraria a ‘big mess’ – Beppe Fenech Adami

PN backbencher Beppe Fenech Adami says the honoraria increase is "good in principle" but was completely mishandled.

Nationalist MP Beppe Fenech Adami said the increase in honoraria for government ministers was “handled in the worst possible way”, in an interview with Saviour Balzan on Reporter.

The MP however said the main issue of the controversial increase, in which ministers were awarded a higher MPs' honorarium than their colleagues in the House, was whether it had been good in principle or not.

“I believe it is good,” Fenech Adami said, but he criticised the way by which the general public got to know about the increase: “All one had to do was explain to the public that the increase was a good thing. Unfortunately, neither did the explanation go well.”

Fenech Adami added that the honoraria saga started off on the wrong foot to the extent that it was too difficult to explain it to the people.

I would have asked Peppe if he agreed to give the rest of us e1.60.I would have asked Peppe how could you say the economy is good when we are buried under a mountain of debt that's costing us e550,000 in interests every single day.I would have asked Peppe when is his father going to apologize to Dr. sant.

What`s there to explain Beppe? All I know is that PN MPs got e500 a week, while Maltese workers got e1.16. Any kind of explanation will not alter these figures Beppe.

No dear Beppe; it is not a good thing when you have a country drowning in debt and instead of rewarding and giving incentives to those who have to work and do sacrifices to fix this mess, youactually reward those who GOT us in it. How do you explain that away ???????

It is a fact that in Malta everyone needs a pay rise because our wages are way below standard. The problem is that the politicians got the 500 Euro pay rise. Businessman are always increasing their prices both for products and services and the common people are getting nothing rather then the monthly pocket money that we still call wage in this country. The average wage in Malta is 15000 Euros yearly. Does anyone really think that people can live a decent life with that amount. I really do not think so. Thanks to the greedy politicians and businessman we are in this very unfair situation.

It is not only the Handling of honoraria that is a big mess’ –dear Beppe Fenech Adami, it is the handling of the assets and fincances of the courtry that is not only a big mess but also a disgrace and we have to thank your Pop for it with his Money No Problem attitude and the way he and his administration squandered the country's silver and gold!

LoL has been handled badly you think ! You have a Prime Minister harping about sacrifice and austerity and difficult economic times who recently stated that his team forsaw/predicted the financial crisis facing the world that might affect us negatively coz Malta isn't cutoff from the rest of the world. What does the man do, he awards himself and his posse a hefty raise in May 2008 right in the midst of that spectacular collapse. Charismatic leaders lead by example, it certainly didn't help to lay the ground for reducing the deficit. How can you now sell austerity to the great unwashed if you insist on amply furrowing your snout in the through unashamedly? Times of crisis require true charismatic leaders not opportunists with an Orwellian alter ego.

Whoever says that this honoraria increase was a good thing is doomed as a politician! With all the increases in the cost of living, life in Malta is getting pretty expensive and small families can hardly make ends meet so our greedy politicans get an unjustified euro 500 per week increase. But in reality Malta is worse off than it was 10 years ago. Is this success? certainly not!

Good thing my foot, Beppe is a chip of the old block. So a €500/week rise for the ministers and parl.segs is OK compared to the €1.16/week for the rest of us. Get a life Beppe you are as credible as your father. Is it possible that you still find people who vote for you, not counting your bazuzli and friends of friends.

Of course there is a need of explanations, €500 : €1.16; price hikes, in fuel, gass, electricity bills, food stuff, Arriva and a million other issues
