No comment from Gonzi, MPs ahead of Tuesday's confidence vote

Prime Minister faces vote of confidence after Franco Debono's abstention on Labour motion.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi released no comment to the press as he left a PN parliamentary group that discussed tomorrow’s parliamentary agenda, which includes a call for a vote of confidence in his government.

Gonzi has called for a vote of confidence in his government on Tuesday, after Transport Minister Austin Gatt was saved by the Speaker’s vote following an abstention last Friday by Nationalist MP Franco Debono.

Addressing journalists last Friday, Gonzi said he had immediately forwarded a request for a vote of confidence to be taken next Tuesday. “This vote is important to assure the nation of government’s stability in this important time of crisis all Europe is facing,” Gonzi said, adding that he acknowledges that it was Franco Debono himself who suggested for a vote of confidence to be taken soon after his abstention.

However, when asked about Franco Debono’s future as parliamentary assistant within his Office, the Prime Minister said “this is a matter which will deal with later on but it is no up to journalists to speculate on what’s to happen.”

GONZIPN WANTS A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE FROM HIS PARTIE`S MPs......IT DOESN`T MEAN A THING SINCE GONZI BOUGHT HIS MPs WITH e500 PER WEEK. LOOKS LIKE GONZI SAW THIS COMING.

Your MP under threat might give you a vote of confidence Mr Gonzi, but it will mean nothing. Its the people who decides not a few buffoons around you.

Go for the people's vote of confidence not of your fellow deputies dear Gonzi.

It is nice to be taking for a ride on the eve of the Budget. Gonzi, Debono and all are leading a farce that does not make us laugh at all. The buck as yet is in the PN Government, but the day will come when Maltese and Gozitans will have their say. Regarding Debono, is he sure that he is convincing us with the role of rebel backbencher when in reality he is only ridicule himself and his party. Franco remember: Malta first and foremost. So do show some really guts tomorrow and confirm your no confidence in a Cabinet that includes Austin Gatt, shielded by his friend, Manuel Delia.

And Franco debono did not go to this meeting. X'tahwid! I remember when alfred Sant was in the same situation in 1998, there was not a single day in which the Times and the Independent didn't call for an election so that we could have stability. Now they want stability by having the opposition shut up, and even giving them solutions ie doing their job! What a sad lot!

A vote of confidence is normally sought by a Prime Minister of a coallition government were more than one party form government. Come to think of it gonziPN is made up of more than one party I believe it is made of 35 parties!!! . PN is DEAD, longlive gonziPN.

What is Lawrence gonzi hoping to acheive from a vote of confidence still puzzles me. The vote of confidence the prime minister should seek is a vote of confidence from the general public. A vote of confidence from government elected members of parliment is not a vote a confidence at all. In this administration we have seen government elected members of parliment critisizing the government but they never delivered because they always voted in favor of that which was critisized beforehand. These members of parliment are there to voice the concerns and the problems of those who elected them in 2008 but with their attitude they never managed and will never manage to do so. For them the Nazionalist party is greater then the people of Malta and Gozo.

Seem I was wrong as the meeting will take place today. . By the way who is the whip of gonziPN, JPO or David copycat Agius?

JPO called for an urgent meeting of the parliamentary group which I believe did not happen. Will he abstain or vote against for being given the cold shoulder?
