New CEO appointed at MIA

Austrian Markus Klaushofer was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Malta International Airport.

Markus Klaushofer, former member of the MIA's board of directors, has been appointed as MIA's new CEO.

Former MIA CEO Julian Jaeger stepped down in July as CFO Austin Calleja served as interim CEO.

For the past three years, Klaushofer was at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport, first as Divisional Director for Marketing, Sales & Business Development and subsequently as Chief Commercial Officer.

He also spent over seven years at Vienna International Airport, first as Head of Marketing & Sales (including Cargo) and later took over the added role of Business Development.

Klaushofer is 38 years old and was born in Vienna, Austria. He also attended law school in Vienna.

Between 2007 and 2009, Klaushofer served on the Board of Directors of Malta International Airport.

"it is indeed an honour to be appointed Chief Executive Officer. Over recent years, MIA has garnered an impressive set of records and awards and I intend to build on these achievements, keeping in mind the crucial role the airport plays in the tourism industry of the Maltese Islands," the new CEO said.
