The General Workers Union said that voluntary retirement schemes for its members inside Air Malta will be "inferior" to those being offered to other airline employees.

"We're not against such incentives for other unions' members, as long as our members are given equal treatment," the GWU said in a statement.

The GWU has asked for an urgent meeting with Air Malta management today, and next Wednesday. "We'll keep discussions going until we find a just solution to this matter."

The GWU has asked for the finance minister's intervention in the matter.
