Family Commission should be set up immediately – Labour MP
PL spokesperson on family, children and persons with disability, Justyne Caruana urges government to immediatly set-up Family Commission.
The Labour MP said the Family Commission is paramount to give family its due importance.
"We urge government to immediately set up a Family Commission to give priority to the wellbeing of our families and family policy," Caruana said.
Caruana said that earlier this year the Opposition tabled a parliamentary motion calling for the appointment of a permanent parliamentary committee on the family and a national commission for the family, however government's response was to set up a parliamentary sub-committee within the Social Affairs Committee.
Caruana said that to date government has yet to set up the Family Commission. "Government's lethargy is negatively effecting all families in the country who are facing a tough period."
Caruana accused government of inertia and said the Opposition was never consulted regarding this matter.
